Program Synopsis: CREW Careers 2009 CREW Chicago held the third annual CREW Careers event on October 17th at DLA Piper’s offices, 203 N. LaSalle St. From 8:00 am to 4:30 pm about 40 bright and enthusiastic young girls from the Off the Street Club, Walter Payton High School, other young friends of CREW members, CREW members and volunteers explored the variety of real estate career options using hands-on sessions involving real-world challenges in real estate leasing and space use. The day started with presentations from CREW members and leadership describing various real estate careers. The girls broke off into five teams representing five different types of space users (retail bank, medical office, high tech, insurance, and law firm). Each team then interacted with CREW members acting as a broker, architect/designer, lawyer, construction manager and property manager, to gain an understanding of the roles and concerns of each of these important real estate functions. The girls then visited two vacant suites in 161 North Clark – a raw space to help them understand how a project looks at the beginning, and a built-out space to see how it is transformed at the end of the process. The climax of the day was the showcase of each team's proposal in a presentation to the entire group.
