Thoughts and An Ask from CREW Chicago's Foundation Chapter Champion.......

An overall feeling of optimism is guiding my thoughts and actions, I can only imagine that it is due to all the possibilities available to us in the aftermath of the economic shut down caused by the pandemic.  It could also be the summer weather!  So good news is catching my eye these days, and this is one example:  I was perusing past CREW Network Benchmark Studies and thought to look at our progress from 2005 to 2020 and what I found was really interesting:

  • The number of Benchmark Survey participants increased significantly, from 1,834 respondents in 2005 to 2,930 in 2020 and the number of women respondents increased over 25%!  Clearly women are seeing the value of our collective voices being heard and known in the CRE industry.
  • We acknowledge that commercial real estate activities are driven in large part by transaction activity.  Transaction activity is driven in large part by commissioned projects.  Women willing to participate in commissioned-based business increased from 23% to 29% from 2005 to 2020.  We are becoming more comfortable with risk and are being financially rewarded for it!
  • The gap in income disparity from 2005 to 2020 has reduced.  Using data in the Benchmark Studies, I calculated that the gap between what women made as a percentage of what men made was 66% in 2005 and is now reduced to 90%.  We aren't done yet!

I feel strongly that these positive outcomes are the result of an unwavering, multi-layered effort to grow the number of women involved in CRE and to increase our wealth as a major benefit.  The CREW Benchmark Study is the mouthpiece of our collective voices to showcase our contributions and the need to continue pushing.  I'm curious, what do you find interesting in our Benchmark studies?  The link to all of them is here:  https://crewnetwork.org/about/research/benchmark-studies

Now my ask:  If you haven't invested in CREW Foundation for the 2021 year, please do so.  These Benchmark Studies are funded in large part by CREW Network Foundation.  Through the Studies, our impacts on the industry are recognized and our brands are strengthened by being CREW Members.  Strong contributions to Foundation by our members allow CREW Chicago to meet all the goals of the Chapter Challenge which is a beautiful feather in our cap.  Kindly find the link here and celebrate the optimism that this year is sure to bring!   https://crewnetwork.org/foundation/donate.  I look forward to seeing many of you as we meet more in person.

Optimistically yours,
Jeanne Peck
